Summer maintenance often gets reduced to "check your AC," which is fair but incomplete. A few other things behave differently once it's genuinely hot out, and they're worth checking together.
Air Conditioning Performance
Refrigerant can lose a small amount of charge gradually over the years, even without an obvious leak, and a system running low works harder while cooling less effectively. If your AC feels weaker than it used to, or takes longer to actually cool the cabin, that's worth checking before the hottest part of summer rather than during it.
Coolant Condition, Not Just Level
Beyond just having enough coolant, its actual condition matters more in summer heat. Coolant that's old or has lost its corrosion protection doesn't manage heat as effectively, right when your engine is working against higher ambient temperatures on top of its own heat load.
Tire Pressure, Rechecked
Air expands as it heats up, so tire pressure that was correct on a cool morning can read differently by the middle of a hot summer day. It's worth rechecking rather than assuming a spring reading still holds, since both under and over-inflation affect handling and tire wear.
Wiper Blades
This is the one people forget. Rubber wiper blades take real damage from a full summer of sun and heat exposure, drying out and cracking even if they never touch a drop of rain. Most people don't think about them again until the first fall storm reveals they're already streaking uselessly across the windshield.
Battery Health
We've covered this in more depth elsewhere, but the short version: heat is actually harder on battery lifespan than cold is, even though cold is when a weak battery usually finally fails. Summer is a good time to have it tested.
