As a general rule, anything involving brakes, steering, a burning smell, or a flashing (not steady) check engine light should be looked at right away. A steady check engine light with no other symptoms can usually wait a few days for an appointment. When in doubt, call us and describe what you're seeing or hearing, we can help you figure out how urgent it is.

Do you provide a written estimate before starting work?

Yes, always. We explain what we found, what it will cost, and why before any repair work begins. You decide how to move forward, and nothing gets added without your approval.

What's the difference between OEM and aftermarket parts, and which do you use?

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made by or for your vehicle's manufacturer. Aftermarket parts are made by other companies to fit your vehicle, and quality varies widely by brand. We use OEM or OEM-equivalent parts and can talk through your options if you have a preference or a budget in mind.

Can I get a second opinion here if another shop gave me an estimate?

Absolutely. We're happy to take an independent look and give you an honest read on whether a recommended repair is necessary and whether the price seems fair.

Do you offer same-day service?

For many routine services, oil changes, inspections, and simple diagnostics, yes, especially if you get here earlier in the day. More involved repairs may need parts ordered or more shop time, and we'll always give you a realistic timeline upfront.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept standard payment methods including major credit cards, along with financing options for larger repairs. Ask us about financing when you schedule if cost is a concern.

Can I wait at the shop while my vehicle is serviced?

Do you work on foreign and import vehicles, not just domestic?

Yes. We service domestic, import, and luxury vehicles alike, from Honda and Toyota to BMW, Audi, and beyond.

Do you work on hybrid and electric vehicles?

We service most hybrid vehicles and handle many of the routine and diagnostic needs of electric vehicles as well. Some specialized EV battery work may need to go to a dealer, so call with your specific vehicle and we'll tell you honestly what we can handle.

Do you work on diesel trucks?

Yes, we service diesel engines including diagnostics, fuel systems, and emissions-related components.

What if my vehicle's make isn't listed on your website?

Call us anyway. The brands listed on our vehicles page are the ones we see most often, but that's a starting point, not a limit on what we service.

Do you service high-mileage or older vehicles?

Yes. High-mileage vehicles often need more attentive maintenance, and we're glad to help you keep an older car running well and safely.

Can you still get parts for a discontinued brand like Pontiac or Mercury?

Do you offer pre-purchase inspections before I buy a used car?

What if I have less-than-perfect credit?

NY Inspections

How often do I need a NY State inspection?

Every vehicle registered in New York State must be inspected at least once every 12 months. Your current sticker shows the month it expires.

How much does a NY State inspection cost?

The fee is set by New York State, not by individual shops. Outside the New York Metropolitan Area, which includes Auburn, the maximum allowed fee is $21 for most passenger vehicles requiring both the safety and OBD II emissions check. Diesel and certain other vehicle types may differ.

What does a NY State inspection check?

The safety portion covers brakes, tires, steering and suspension, lights, windshield wipers, mirrors, horn, and more. Most vehicles also get an OBD II emissions check as part of the same visit.

Is emissions testing included in my NY inspection?

For most vehicles, yes, the OBD II emissions check happens at the same time as the safety inspection. Some vehicles are exempt, see the next question.

Is my vehicle exempt from emissions testing?

Vehicles less than two model years old, vehicles more than 25 model years old, and most diesel-powered vehicles are exempt from the emissions portion, though they still need the safety inspection. We can confirm your vehicle's status when you come in.

What happens if my vehicle fails inspection?

You'll need to complete the necessary repairs and return for a reinspection before your registration can be renewed. We'll explain exactly what failed and what it will take to pass.

What if I just moved to New York or bought a car privately?

New residents need a valid inspection, and a private sale or ownership transfer also triggers the need for a new inspection. We can help you get this taken care of.

What if I'm out of state when my inspection sticker expires?

New York allows a 10-day extension if you're out of state when your sticker expires, though you'll need to contact the DMV in advance to arrange it. Get in touch with us if you need help sorting out timing.

What should I bring with me for an inspection?

Bring your vehicle registration. That's typically all that's needed, walk-ins are welcome.
